RV Camping
Most people believe that if you are RV camping, then you are not truly camping. I get it: if you are not sleeping on the ground, then you are missing out on the whole purpose of camping. All the amenities at your fingertips with most RV's, leave little need to get out, and experience how to survive with basic necessities. But sometimes RV camping is appropriate, and necessary.
What if you just want to get away from society but will still need to keep up on some paperwork; having ample lighting and protection from the seasonal elements will allow you to focus more on that. Perhaps you will be camping with someone that has a handicap. Using a RV could satisfy his or her needs. Maybe you want to get out in the country, away from everyone, where it is peaceful and quiet - but still have all the amenities of a home with you. Whatever your reasons are, we will go over everything you need to know, and pack, for a successful recreational vehicle camping trip.
Selecting the Best Recreational Vehicle For Your Needs
It is very easy to get overwhelmed with all the different types of rv's available, with different facilities and prices. The best way to eliminate stress is to first decide whether you want a motor home, or towable trailer. You can easily figure out which is best by taking a look at the pros and cons of each, and comparing them to your needs.
Motor home pros
- It's easier to park a single-unit vehicle, than one with a trailer. Overall, unless you are on narrow or winding roads, motor homes are more simple to drive than vehicles with trailers.
- Convenience - everything you need is in one unit
- Very handy if you have children. Children will enjoy being able to do as much in a motor home, as they can in their house. This will vary, depending on the size and ammenities that come with your RV.
- Minimal setup, once you reach your campsite.
Motor home cons
- They are expensive.
- Resale values can be atrocious (which could be a "pro," if you're purchasing second-hand).
- Maintenance expenses can be hefty.
- GAS PRICES.
- Flexibility. Once you get to the campsite, and "hook-up" for the night, running out to the grocery store is no longer an option. Well, it's still an option, but requires some work. This problem is easily remedied by towing a smaller vehicle, or bringing bicycles or motorcycles.
Types of Motor Homes:
Class A
Luxury RVs- We are talking about home away from home here, the ultimate luxury with plenty of space and amenities.
Class B
- Van-like motor homes
- Travel Trailers
- Pop-Up Tent Trailer
- Truck Camper
- Sport Utility
- Fifth Wheel - the most luxurious and the biggest towable trailer. It usually the option of choice but requires a pickup truck for towing.
Class C
Mini motor homes - very similar to the Class A Motor home but they generally cost a little less and are "mini." These have plenty of space for families and are more affordable than the Class A version. They are also a bit more familiar to drive, due to the scaled down size.

Renting a RV
When renting a RV, be sure to take your time, and research prices. I have seen a wide range of pricing for similar vehicles on the internet, so it pays to do your homework. In general, the price will depend on the season, length of rental, size, age, and what you opt to be included with the vehicle. The most common type of rental is a motor home, but you can find towable trailers for rent. You don't need any special license to drive a recreational vehicle, either.
